Dream last night:
I was at a house where people were holding a craft sale, lots of people. I saw two old pals, Connie and Kamryn. I approached Connie and she was rude to me, blaming me for this and that. I was hurt and I stormed out. On the way out I saw Kamryn and in my anger I flipped her off and she retaliated. Mad and upset I jumped on a plane and flew to Switzerland, to Lake Lugano where My friend Rikki lives. I came to her home which was a expansive mansion on green lawns surrounded by lush hills and white capped mountains, I could even see the gorgeous crystal blue lake lugano below. Her sweet mother fed us breakfast and then she showed me where I could take a shower. Then the dream turned funny again because as I showered my friends Chris and Jack came in the bathroom and kept trying to take a peak of me, I yelled them out and kept wrapping the shower curtain around me.

This I should have posted a month and a half ago. In June I took a trip out to Sunnyvale, CA to visit my sister Meghan and her family Mark, Reese, & Zoe. I had the best time. I love my darling nieces they are adorable. I love Reese's scratchy little voice, how she is always drinking her juice/milk/water, and how I got to be her best friend for 4 days. I love Zoe's huge smile, how she grabs at your face and ears and hair. I just hope my kids can keep up with all this cute-ness.

I don't know if you guys know this but I'm an Undercover agent, working for ICAHM-International Commitee on Archeaological Heritage Managment. Todays the day the world knows, I work for them... I'm not ashamed. I give them blurbs, I talk with the co-presidents. They do some good work for the historical buildings we have the pleasure of enjoying around the world.

I'm just joking with you all. But really there must be a "Marni Walker" that works pretty high up in the company, because I really did get a personal email from the big guys. . .. Maybe they'll offer me an intern for next summer.

For the fourth of July Pam, Liz, Ryan and Myself went to the Stadium of Fire. For those you you who know me, you know I'm not the biggest fan of country music, in fact it makes me sick, however, I was surprised to know a lot of Carrie Underwood's songs, and that is one thing I do like about concerts is knowing the words to the songs. So I have to admit I had a good time. And the fireworks were awesome!

Me and Tai Chi

On Tuesday evening, I went with my roommates Pam and Liz to a free tai chi class in Orem City park. I know what your thinking.... but as you may know I'm an early student in different meditation techniques, and although this is not meditation it's very relaxing and beneficial. It has a lot to do with breathing, and the movements are meant to help you become centered. Or you could say "harness your chi".
So like you see in movies where there are a group of old ladies and gents, doing slow hand movements in the park, that's exactly what I was doing last night. If you are interested my teacher is putting together a list of books that one might read to learn more about tai chi, and if you live in the provo/orem area, you should come with me.

Fine Fine Fine

So, this summer I have been busy, not terrible, but I'm occupied. BUT! I'm going to make a fruitful effort to post on my blog once a week, and if I do good I then deserve to make myself a new one. Bare with me.
First let me tell you about my summer days, at least three times a week I get up a run first thing, working up to three miles so I can run my first 5k in September. Next I meditate 10 to 15 minutes. Then I'll work either 9 to 5 or 2 to 10, and all my other time is filled with, my ward calling, reading, painting, little mundane errands, and so forth.
Second I'm going to cry a little to you all about my feelings, gross I know. It's like when the girl gets up in testimony meeting and starts crying and her voice gets so high you don't know what she is saying and your not really feeling spiritual because you're cringing. Unfortunately your here reading this so I'm about to get sad on you.
So if you know me, you know I've changed a lot in the last 8 months, It has been a good change and I feel really good about things these days, but for the last week I've been down. So I asked myself "why should I be feeling this way?" and the conclusion I drew is that my body is remember the sorts of things I did last summer, I wasn't this busy, I had two best friends I was inseprable with, and I was justing having plain fun weather it was stupid or clean, I was in it. Now subconciously I'm remember it and longing for it. So starting my blog will be one thing to occupy my mind and express myself.

I is the autobiography of the man who brought meditation and yoga to the United States in 1920. REally fasinating if your into the spiritual phenomenons of this world.

The more time I spend away from the computer the more I realized I'm not a computer person... I'm just not. I'm constantly thinking about weather I should Blog or weather I should get rid of my face book. I have money safely tucked in the bank and not to long ago the only thing I wanted to do with that money was buy a laptop since I've been with out one for 2 and a 1/2 years. But the more I think about it the more I'd prefer to just save that money for future things, traveling.... Marriage.... emergency. So I have to tell you I may just end my blog, until I have the energy like my wonderful sister Meghan to provide heartwarming stories and photos.

It's been getting closer and closer to school time and now it starts tomorrow for me.
My thoughts on this? well- I've been really excited, I mean I'm working 32 hours a week and going to school 12 credits and sleeping. And that will be my life, who doesn't want that? heh, but now I am getting a bit scared I mean I've always been a kinda lazy person and school has never been easy for me, AND I'm changing majors. So I'm putting my big girl pants on a just throwing myself into this busy life.
how hard can it be? I'm Just hoping to stay balanced and happy. I know I can so let's see me do it.

My sister took this great picture of me back in December! My sister is getting better and better at photography and she is already great so it's a bonus.

I see all these people around me getting out there and taking photos and doing so well and coming across opportunities and jobs in the photography world and I think hey I need to get up on this! I need to take some photos and get my name out there!..... But then i remember, oh yeah my cameras broken, and oh yeah I have no money. boo.
Truthfully this could all be fixed with a bit of focus, so I will work on that. And hopefully people will be seeing more of my work around.

I'd like to share a short passage from the book my nose is currently dug into. I think words can be the most beautiful expression.

Recently I've picked up the habit of busing, I absolutely love the bus I feel the love in the marrow of my bone. Maybe not that deep, but it certainly is premium. I take the bus to and from school, and to and from work. The reason for all this busing started with my lack of car, broken tail light, resulting in a ticket and expired registration.... and on and on. It is strangely liberating to be dedicated to the bus, I am free to read and view the people who enjoy mass transportation. I always see someone I know or meet new people. For example tonight I met Homer, he is from North Mexico City, he has lived in Utah 4 years and lived in London for a few months. People have beautiful ambitions. I've read two Douglas Coupland books, and have just started "The History of Love".

Today I am happy I have my car fixed and insured, but a part of me in sad, I will still try to take the bus as much as I do now.

I am human flesh, my desires have a nature of somewhat carnal origins, but through faith I alter my desires.
Lately I have had the best days of my life with repercussions, questioning my stance on certain subjects. I will not delve into my deeper thoughts on the subject, but I will say that I feel split. On one side I feel that I want to give in to carnal desire, I want to do things that I've refrained from, I believe that I could be very different from the person I am now. And on the other side, I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, I have felt the spirit, and I know that my desires are carnal, and can be destructive.

Every living person needs gratification in their lives. I thinks that is only achieved through friends and religion (possible hobbies), family included in friends, because if you are not friends with your family they will not gratify you. These past three weeks have been so fun and amazing. I feel like I've known my roommates for years. I,m still wondering when someone is going to pull me out of this easy fun life, reverse my life and give me money and take away friends. I choose friends because I need gratification money will never give me.

In truth I will never be great with words, but like every able human being I have Ideas and I have thoughts. I would first like to express appreciation for the friends and family who have made me feel that my expressions although unconventional and small are worth something to someone. And for today I will try to compare to books I've read recently. "A Thousand Splendid Suns" written by Khaled Hosseini compared with Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughter House Five". I've decided to put these to side by side not only because it seemed to me that these two books are pregnant with anti-war passages, but also because it was a small idea and because of a friend I've chosen to post my thoughts.

A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS
This novel By Khaled Hosseini is a heart breaking tale of two women raised in the heart of Afghanistan in the middle of communism, terrorist, Taliban, living in constant fear of gun fire and rockets.
Although Mariam and Laila, differing in age by 20 years and raised under different circumstances, their paths are thrust over one another. They learn how to live in the most dire of circumstances. They cling helplessly to memories of past lives before the war, marriage, and heartache. With their new found companionship they learn that love has not left them in the dust of a drought.

SLAUGHTER HOUSE-FIVE A maze of moments of life and death. So it goes. Kurt Vonnegut plunges into all the layers of war while earthlings subjected to indescribable pains, become detached from the past that it can only be told in the third person. Following Billy Pilgrim's life and death through space and time, he finds himself in a moment where he questions "how can a planet live at peace". Weather the aliens are real or not, the point lies with every one's individual power and the lack of courage therein.

COMPARISON
Now this is when my mind will get A.D.D. so cross your fingers that I'll pull something intelligible together.
"Do you have it in you?" Laila said.
"To what?"
"To use this thing. To Kill with it"
or another quote I've heard repeatedly "guns don't kill people, people do". between the two quotations I see that all humans have good in them, but with the correct motivation, we all have the capacity to kill a living being, and one person can have the power to kill thousands.
Dresden, Germany was fire bombed at the end of the world's second war killing more civilians than Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined. And for over three decades Kabul, Afghanistan was under constant attack from different sources. The declaration of war is the most beautifully terrible moment in for a country in contention. For the women in Afghanistan and Laila the character in A Thousand Splendid Suns watches a television as George W Bush declares war, a miracle to her and the women who have lived in the dark hallows of oppression. Days after the firebombing of Dresden the war is over, and peace falls on all prisoners of war. It is amazing that two complete opposite declarations could bring a liberating sense of peace for these characters. War may bring peace but we must look back at the damage made and ask 'was it worth it?'
People think it is a simple act of clean up, an easy way out of a pickle to kill thousands to show they have the upper hand. Kurt Vonnegut displays a moving message through the illustration of a movie of American Bombers seen backwards and then forward, while forward this movie is America's killing and winning, but looking at the film backwards the ragged planes and ragged bodies are brought to life again, Germans save the American lives as the Americans suck the destruction away from the earth, people help take apart weapons of war and hide the chemicals of death. How breath taking cooperation and communication can be.
In the end my blog has failed to effectively compare these two novels in many different places but really you could take anything from our time and scratch the underbelly of war. But what I can compare is this. All the main characters in the two books believe that there is someone or something out there watching us on earth. Someone who knows that peace is something far more intelligent and is sad that humans rejoice in killing each other. These powers are greater than us as a whole and reaching down to try and help and understand us, all we need to do is accept that and use the means of communication to bring peace, use our hearts to do what we can,
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to tell the difference."

Sorry my blog friends it has been so very long since i've blogged on this page. I've been having a wonderful time living here in Northern Virginia. I am coming home to Utah In exactly three weeks from today, and even though I quit my job early I will not be coming home early for two reasons. One: I do not have the money to spend on changing my return ticket, and two: I want one final trip to VA Beach before we go.

All in all I think I've grown a bit here in the DC area, I understand how life gives you a handful of decisions, and you must choose them at risk but the reward is great for choosing the right. I am learning to get over some of my fears, like calling strangers, doing adult things on my own, saving money and learning to cope with expenses, I've also learned that friends and family are the hearts contentment no money could ever buy.

Brittany and I have a theory that we are the YouTube generation. When you first meet someone and you don't know very much about them it is inevitable that youtube will come up in conversation, whether it's a funny video or music video. It is a perfect icebreaker it allows both parties to get a feel for the others music tastes, thier type of humor and various other facts about them (possibly what movies they watch and if they are offended by swearing or not.) It's been two weeks here in the the lovely state of Virginia and I'm just reminded everyday how dry utah is compared. I still need a job! brittany just got one but these last two weeks we've been trying to find things to do to kill time without spending to much money and this is what we do

-Watch up to three movies a day

-ride the scooters

-eat.... a lot

-go to the neighborhood fitness centre

-surf the intenet

-make brittany's dad take us out to eat

-read

- AND the best of all!!!! Playing CORK-U-LA it's a game you play on the kitchen counter tops with a wine bottle cork (which smells gross and is called romano) and two spatulas(that you call fu-chuckers) you ricochet the romano of the cupboards to one another, the rules are when it falls to the floor you can't use your hands to pick it up, points 1-10 and you make points by the other persons judgement of how cool the landing was.

posssibly the best game in the world.

A lot of things have already happened to me in the past few days here in DC, I met Barrack Obama

We went to the biggest Mall I've ever been to in Pentagon City where I applied to some stores, Then Brit and I got our hair did. here are some pictures of the results

Possibly the best hair color I've ever had! but like all good things I had to end it the next day. Then we went to a Nationals game.

First day out in Alexandria and already Brittany and I have found a perfect photo spot. I guess when you walk around with a camera glued to your hand like Brit and me, you end up seeing things most people pass by. Here are pictures from this place. It was abandoned house and two smaller houses.

Brit is mostly worried about the humidity affecting her hair, almost like my Mother who's only concern was i would be miserable in this humidity, so far i'm not complaining although we've been here less than 24 hours. I'm mostly conerned about a job, not that i may not get one, how could I not? but more of i better love my job or the summer will be bleh.
The past week I tried to organize my time into three places of importance, packing, finals and saying goodbye to friends. I'll be coming home to a lot of new things in the fall.

Last Weekend I drove to San Diego for My cousin Tonya's wedding. It was picture perfect. She is the only daughter in the family so her parents went all out, I imagine Lynsey Leiter's wedding much like this one.

other note:
going to california makes me realize how much i want to live there. My cousin has 5 kids well behaved and she is in shape and still looks like she is 23! I just think with hard work life would be so great on the other side (california).

The usual dance party at BYU happens every few weeks at the hollywood house with rock the block, and the regular bash throwing cats. Well guess what p-town, a new innovative dance party has hit and made a deep impression. Last Friday a party was thrown for the blood cancers foundation to raise lots of money. The difference..... music. All the music was electro/dance music the closest we got to rap was M.i.a. everyone loved it and asked if DJ K-Pack would be throwing down some more dope tunes in the near future. congrats Provo can survive with out grinding, soft core porn, dress to impress, hip hop dance parties!

This past weekend I did a photo shoot with my sister and her boyfriend Jared. although I only use d a canon point and shoot 7.1 mega pixel, they turned out rather good.

I had two locations, 1000 south, South Jordan. And an awesome car junk yard, where the man we asked permission to use said "sure you can take some pictures!, but if the models are in swim suits you'll have to excuse my droolin'."

This weekend I quit my beloved Graywhale. Listened to Hum excessively. And cut my hair again. It was Chris's birthday.

Monumental Man

Band Photography and Fashion photography intrigue me the most and I would like to do something as such. here are some recent shows i've been.

The most monumental man I will ever know says no words, he has in his head, but utters something entirely different. No person of ordinary circumstances would stand next to him in wonder. There are few, few who take a breath of him in and know they are forever grasped by his mystries.

He puts no effort out to capture his small audience. He does his daily motions without ever knowing the impact he has on one individual soul. Who knew one man so seemingly ordinary in his stature and speech would have you questioning hours later if you said the right things or acted in the precise way in which was pleasing to such a monumental man.

How do you tell a monumental man that he is such, that he has captured you in every bone and you are powerless?

today was one of those days, those days where i made lists. a pros and cons list. a living habits list. notes in classes. flyers. days like these i look positively upon life cause i feel that this day in which i am presently making lists, is the day i will truly change, the day were i become myself. later i'll come to realize lists can not change a person, instead actions fuel you down the road of becoming you.

empower vs uphoria

I have to say the competing teams this year for student government are good, both Empower and Uphoria have strong platforms and a remarkable campain, but what it comes down to is food. I was first thinking hey i like this empower team cause they have creative signs about the halls, then Empower gave me popcorn and i love popcorn. so i was set on empower (although i probably wouldn't have even gone to the computer lab and actually voted). However today took me by suprise, i get off the shuttle *hot chocolate waiting for me by team Uphoria, then i'm given *cotton candy down the L.A. hall by Uphoria, and finally *popcorn* by none other but Uphoria. congrats Uphoria i actually came to the computer lab and voted. And my conclusion is this. Food rules the world.
